Use AI models without Internet

  Hello friends,

  In this blog, I will demonstrate how you can you run various AI models such as ChatGPT, Grock, DeepS, and other straight from your local machine — without having access to the internet. That means you can chat with an AI even when you’re offline. Need help with coding or a random question? You can get your answer all from your PC.

  Getting Started: Installing GPT4All: 

  Open your browser and type "gpt4all.io".

  1. On the website, you’ll see:

  ·         "Your private and local AI chatbot"

  ·         "No internet required"

  2. Download the installer for your operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux)
  3. After downloading, go to your Downloads folder, right-click the setup file, and select "Run as administrator".
  4. Follow the setup wizard steps:

  ·         Click Next, select installation path

  ·         Accept the license agreement

  ·         Click Install and wait for it to finish

  5. When installation completes, click Finish

  Using GPT4All:

  1. Press "Windows + S" to open the search box and search for "GPT4All".
  2. You can pin the app to your taskbar or start menu for easy access.
  3. Open the app and you will see options like:
  • Start Chatting
  • Local Docs
  • Find Models

  Installing AI Models:

  1. Click "Start Chatting". Since no model is installed yet, click on "Install a model".
  2. You will see a list of many AI models along with details according to file size, RAM requirements, parameters, quantization, and type.
  3. For models like ChatGPT, Grock, or Mistral, you need their API keys under the "Remote Providers" section.
  4. You can also download models from Hugging Face directly.
  5. Simply click the "Download" button next to the model you want to install, and wait for it to download, downloading time will depend on your internet connection, PC specification and model of AI.
  6. If your PC does not support suggested AI model, you will see a warning below the download button.
  7. After downloading, you will able to remove any model by clicking the "Remove" button.

  Chatting with AI Offline:

  1. Go to the "Chats" tab, click "Load" to open the downloaded model.
  2. You can switch between multiple installed models anytime.
  3. Type your message in the message box and press Enter key.
  4. The AI will start responding even without an internet connection.
  5. You can regenerate or copy responses as needed.
  6. The interface allows you to hide, rename, or delete chats.
  7. In the "Settings", you can change font size, theme, and other preferences.

  Now you know how to install and use AI models locally on your PC and chat with them without any internet connection. Whether it’s coding help or any question, the AI will assist you offline!
